Aston Villa Report

Jacob Tanswell

It's not overly difficult for #AVFC to play out from the back as they have overloads when United press, but the midfield is having to get through a lot of work. Having John McGinn back does give Emery so many more options in what to do with and without the ball. Good tempo

Jacob Tanswell

Good save from Martinez to stop Diallo's header. Good game, this. United a clear threat out-wide and with crosses into the box but encouraging signs for #AVFC with the ball. Buendia, McGinn, Rogers rotation positions to try and overload Mainoo/Casemiro. Just need to control tempo

Jacob Tanswell

#AVFC in a very compact 4-4-2 without the ball, the defensive line is high and aimed with stopping play through midfield. Emery keeps gesturing for the ball to go out-wide but never through, so onus on Bogarde/Digne to defend well

Jacob Tanswell

McGinn is basically trying to stand behind Mainoo. When United try to press #AVFC's centre backs, Mainoo jumps onto Onana but McGinn is spare. Villa need to keep trying to play past Mainoo into McGinn/Rogers Switch of play to Digne is always on, too

We're underway at Old Trafford… Man United 0-0 #AVFC

An opportunity for #AVFC to banish some ghosts, maybe…

Jacob Tanswell

#AVFC warming up with Rogers off the right, McGinn in the 10. Some tomfoolery or that's how they start?

Jacob Tanswell

Emi Martinez, Senne Lammens... feasibly the two GKs could be on opposite teams. Martinez's red here last year was a key moment (very wet and slippery today, so rushing out of goal not advised) then came the months of talking to Amorim. #AVFC may need the best version of him today

Ross Barkley's last league start for Aston Villa was in January 2025, when he scored in a 2-1 win against Leicester City. #AVFC
