Aston Villa Report

The Athletic

A statement of intent against fellow Champions League hopefuls by Michael Carrick’s Manchester United. Two assists for Bruno Fernandes, another goal for Benjamin Sesko, and three more points as Manchester United strengthen their hold on third against Aston Villa.

#AVFC suffer their third consecutive league defeat, going down 3-1 to Man United at Old Trafford. It's now just two league wins here in 38 trips. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/john-townleys-aston-villa-player-33593513

FT: Man United 3-1 #AVFC Just three wins in the last 13 PL games. Record here remains wretched, yet Villa had opportunities to take the game to the hosts. But when you compound the same type of cheap goals conceded and a very blunt attack, it's difficult to execute any plan

GOAL: £70m Benjamin Sesko comes off the bench to give Man United a two-goal cushion. Man United 3-1 #AVFC

Goal, Sesko. 3-1. Becoming grim again at Old Trafford. #AVFC

Ian Maatsen and Douglas Luiz coming on. #AVFC

Wind taken out of #AVFC, there. Were on top and the atmosphere had changed. Then through one giveaway and Konsa losing Cunha, momentum violently swung again. For a manager who prides himself on avoiding transition, the two goals will sting. Villa trying to rally themselves now

Jacob Tanswell

Cunha, goal. Straight after Emery loses it with Bailey for giving the ball away. Another cheap turnover punished. 2-1 Manchester United. #AVFC

What a moment for Ross Barkley. His first league start since January 2025. #AVFC keep the corner alive, with Digne's low cross finding Barkley at the back post. His left footed effort past Lammens. Villa can and should push, now

John Townley

GOAL: Ross Baaarkley! He levels for Villa, slamming the ball past Senne Lammens after Man United failed to clear their lines. Man United 1-1 #AVFC
