Asked Emery about Rowe: "He is playing progressively better this season. We played the first match against Bologna. Since there and to the analysis we did now, the last matches he has performed very well. He scored a fantastic goal. "He threatened us more than we planned." #AVFC

Unai Emery on Jonathan Rowe: "He is playing progressively better this season. We played the first match in the Europa League against Bologna. Since there and to the analysis we did now, the last matches he has performed very well. He scored a fantastic goal." #AVFC

Unai Emery: "Watkins is a fighter. Sometimes he plays brilliant like today, and sometimes not. When he doesn't score we lack something from him. Always he plays well because he always does his task and works for the team. Scoring two goals is fantastic for him and for us." #AVFC

Emery: "Second half, we got the plan better, we could connect better with the 10s and progress better with our striker. "In the first half, we played more than we planned to play long. But in the second half, we connected more. Our reaction to their goal was fantastic."#AVFC

#AVFC will take a two-goal lead back to Birmingham for their Europa League QF second leg against Bologna after a 3-1 win in Italy. Villa punished Bologna for three defensive errors, with Ollie Watkins' late goal proving crucial heading back to B6... 💪…

The Athletic

Aston Villa were not at their best in Emilia-Romagna, but it mattered not. Goals from Ezri Konsa and an Ollie Watkins double gave Unai Emery's side the advantage heading back to the Midlands.

FT: Bologna 1-3 #AVFC A huge third goal. Big win for Villa away from home. Very much second best and were not comfortable at any point, yet found a way to score three goals. Quite astonishing and funny. Villa and Emery won't mind - it's the result that matters and it's a big one

Jacob Tanswell

Pretty hilarious, to be fair. Another corner, #AVFC don't deal with it and Bologna, having been on top again, allow Watkins to tap it home from two yards. huge goal in the contest. 3-1

GOAL: Ollieeee Watkinssss! He restores Villa's two-goal lead in the tie. Terrible defending from Bologna, but Villa won't care. Another goal from a set-piece. Bologna 1-3 #AVFC
