Villa Park is trying to rally its players, perhaps noticing that #AVFC look lethargic and in need of inspiration. Attacking The Holte End, Villa require one of those surges of momentum, where they sustain attacks and pressure. Passes have to be quicker in midfield.

Mitoma curls his shot wide of the far post. Comes from #AVFC passing loosely centrally and Brighton turning over the ball. The rotations and combinations between Sancho and Rogers are nice, just need more support behind and in front of them.

HT: #AVFC 0-0 Brighton Brighton understandably fragile & Villa struggling to go up the gears. Not near the level of incision or directness required. Neat touches from Sancho, Rogers & Maatsen at times, but Rogers is particularly relied on so much due to the midfield injuries

HT: Poor first half - very flat. Neither Villa nor Brighton have created any real goalscoring opportunities, although Buendia came close late on. Big improvement needed, with Lindelof, Digne, Torres, Barkley, Bailey, Abraham and Alysson all in reserve. #AVFC 0-0 Brighton

Aston Villa are showing a keen interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. He'd cost around £65M and could be available for much less should Forest be relegated to the Championship. @TEAMtalk

This has been flat. #AVFC scrappy, getting into needless fights and midfield struggling to dominate. Build up from the back has been slow, which is the opposite of what is required against a man-to-man press. Have to find passes through the lines as there is space to break into

Villa have to play those balls down the channels for Watkins and Maatsen. It's pretty obvious. Pau would have been perfect in the first half an hour, here. #AVFC

Pretty sloppy from both, but #AVFC are a threat when players are running forward without the ball. Villa need to play quicker when Maatsen is making those long runs from deep as he's got the pace on Veltman. Gross is tucking in and on Buendia, who needs to find better positions

Carlos Baleba booked inside two minutes for a foul on Morgan Rogers. Given how #AVFC central play/build attacks and the fact Baleba will often be near Rogers, that could be quite significant.

200 #AVFC games for Tyrone Mings. Along with John McGinn, he embodies the club's transformation. So many setbacks, so many doubts, so many concerns about whether he could still do it, especially in line with Villa's growing expectations. He's answered every question emphatically
